Timetable Overview

An overview of the timetable for each year group is shown below.

You may also find it useful to consult the Degree Overview for an indication of which modules and activities run in each term throughout the year.

Note – these show the ‘typical’ slots in the week where various event types may take place, but events could appear anywhere in the week.

Note – these are the ‘typical’ slots where events could happen, but it’s not the case that every slot will be filled (e.g. not all the slots allocated to Lectures may be filled if there aren’t that number of lectures scheduled that week, and Personal Tutorials / Year Group meetings etc. do not take place every week).

Year 1 – Terms 1 and 2 – These terms have an initial Welcome Week or Exams Week, followed by 10 weeks of teaching. These 10 weeks follow an alternating pattern as below – one week for Academic Tutorials, one week for Workshops.

Year 1 – Term 3 – This term starts with 2 weeks of Exams, with the entire remainder of term devoted to Labs.

Terms 1 + 2 – Week A

Terms 1 + 2 – Week B

Year 2 – Terms 1 and 2 – These terms have an initial Welcome Week or Exams Week, followed by 10 weeks of teaching. These 10 weeks follow an alternating pattern as below – one week for Academic Tutorials, one week for Workshops.

Year 2 – Term 3 – This term starts with 2 weeks of continued Tutorials and Workshops, followed by 2 weeks of Exams, with the entire remainder of term devoted to Labs and Module Coursework.

Year 3 – Terms 1 and 2 – These terms have an initial Welcome Week or Exams Week, followed by 10 weeks of teaching. These 10 weeks follow an alternating pattern as below – one week of Lectures/Workshops followed by two weeks of Labs. (note – you may not have labs in all these possible weeks). BSc students will do their BSc project in one of these terms, and complete the other labs in the other term.

Year 3 – Term 3 – This term starts with 1 week of Exams, with the remainder of term devoted to further labs. MSci students will complete their MSci Literature Review ahead of their project in Year 4.

Year 4 – Term 1 – This term has an initial Welcome Week, followed by 10 weeks of teaching and project time. These 10 weeks follow an alternating pattern as below – one week of Lectures/Workshops followed by one week of Project time.

Year 4 – Term 2 – This term has an initial Exam Week, followed by 10 weeks of Project time.

Year 4 – Term 3 – This term is when the final year project report is submitted, as well as associated assessments (e.g. viva, presentation).
