The ‘calendar’ for ‘chemistry’! These pages outline the floor plans and room availabilities for the Department of Chemistry in the Chemistry Building at South Kensington, and the MSRH at White City.

Note – ChemiCal does NOT allow users to make room bookings (this is view-only).

Levels 1-3 – Department of Chemistry – South Kensington
Levels 4+ – Rest of College – South Kensington

(note – these refresh every 12 hours, check CELCAT for most up-to-date room availability)

Molecular Sciences Research Hub (MSRH) – White City

‘ChemiCal’ was created to allow students and staff in the Department of Chemistry a quicker way to access information about the rooms in the Chemistry Building in South Kensington.

The tools allow users to see what rooms are available ‘right now’ for ad-hoc use (e.g. studying, impromptu meetings), as well as aid in planning in advance (can see when a room will become free).

Note that it is not possible to make room bookings using this site. If a room is not currently in use then students and staff from the Department of Chemistry can use the rooms ad-hoc on a first-come-first-served-basis. Staff should continue to book rooms through chemugadmin@imperial.ac.uk.

QR Codes – Time and Space Availability at the door…

Every door to bookable rooms in the Chemistry Building feature QR Codes.

The QR Code on the door sign will take you to the main ChemiCal site, allowing you to check all room availability and the floor plan.

The QR Code above the card reader on the door handle will show you the current day’s availability for that specific room (quicker than the first option!).

Presenting Screens, Media Bars and Touch Screens in every room

Every room is equipped with a large presenting screen with built-in PC and Media Bar featuring a webcam, microphone and speakers, and integrated into MS Teams etc. to allow video calls and online meetings to take place without needing to bring your own devices.

Every room also features a SMART Touch Screen, allowing you to draw on the screen or make annotations, and can be used in MS Teams, PowerPoint, etc.

Whiteboard Walls and Whiteboard Tables

Most of the teaching rooms feature tables that are have whiteboard surfaces, and some even have entire walls that are floor-to-ceiling whiteboards! This allows for new and exciting methods of teaching, with plenty of space for everyone to work together collaboratively.

LATEST

  • Rooms C261 and C262 now available – these rooms belong to the Department of Chemistry, and allow for group working and workshops, with groups of whiteboard tables surrounding presentation screens.
  • Whiteboard Tables now available in Rooms 248, 249A, 249B, C261, C262, 133C, 133D, 134A, 134B, 134C, C164A, C164B, C165, C167, C169 (as well as new chairs in these rooms)
  • College Spaces now available on Levels 4 and above – Levels 4 and 5 feature mostly social spaces (e.g. common rooms) and ad-hoc student study spaces, with Level 6 mostly bookable teaching rooms

Class Laptop Sets

  • We have two sets of laptops available to be used for teaching.
  • Instead of relying on the availability of the PC Suites (which are frequently booked for computational labs), we now have two laptop trolleys that can be booked in any Workshop Room in the Chemistry Building.
  • This means we can provide up to 60 laptops for teaching (two sets of 30 laptops) in non-lab settings, which will be set up with the standard chemistry software (e.g. MestreNova, Avogadro, ChemDraw, Python) (rather than relying on students bringing their own devices AND having all the software installed and setup in advance).
  • There are two sets of 30 laptops available, and can be booked for use by emailing chemugadmin@imperial.ac.uk . The availability of the laptop sets can be found below:
