Hi! I’m Anand, and I do the Chemistry with Molecular Physics MSci course. I was born in Leeds but home for me is near Leicester. My family are from Kerala in South India, but I’ve lived in the UK all my life!
I spend most of my time making and listening to music – I produce electronic and ambient music, and love finding new types of music, so if you ever want to talk music with me, I’m more than happy to! I also love cooking, gaming, and meeting new people, so feel free to say hello if you see me around :)
Hi, my name is Arun, and I am a first year Chemistry student going into my second year. I am a super keen musician, love fencing and am a huge fan of everything Disney. While I am still discovering Chemistry, I lean towards the organic side given its huge potential for good (even if it is rather tricky to remember all those reactions!
My name is Ayse and I am a third year student this year on the Chemistry with Molecular Physics with a Year in Industry (MSc). I am from Cyprus which is a small island. My interests involve exercising. It can be pilates, yoga, boxing or just a gym workout, I enjoy all! I also like to bake in my free time and hang out with my friends.
Hi, I’m Freya and I’ve just finished my first year of the 4 year Chemistry MSci. I’m from the UK and I grew up in Brighton. Before coming to Imperial, I’d always enjoyed Chemistry, and inorganic chemistry is probably my favourite, even though I enjoy organic a lot as well. I’d worked on a research project before joining, so I was always really into the practical side of the subject, so labs have also easily been one of my favourite parts. Outside of Chemistry, I really enjoy music, and am an Ash Scholar on violin, as well as playing flute and trumpet. On a less academic note, I also enjoy video games on the side, whether that’s CS:GO or even Bloons, it’s nice to change pace sometimes! I just wanted to add that Imperial isn’t without it’s challenges, but make the most of the opportunities around you, and you’ll do great! 🙂
Hi, I am Jiajie from Zhengzhou, China. I would be in year 2 in September 2021, and I am currently in BSc chemistry course (3YFT). I really appreciate the breadth and depth of chemistry in terms of investigation of microscopic world, and this is why I would like to choose chemistry. Also, the multidisciplinary nature of chemistry enables me to exchange ideas among my friends in other STEMM degrees. For my habit, I do enjoy watch anime a lot, as well as collecting anime figures, which are really interesting and rewarding for me.
Hello, I’m Luke Reid, I’m a born and bred Londoner and am about to start my 3rd year at Imperial. I have tried - emphasis on tried - to be an active member of the Chemistry Department where I’ve particularly enjoyed the more physical and inorganic sides of Chemistry. While at Uni I’ve been heavily involved with the Christian Union, as my faith is what I build my life around. I have also loved spending time with the friends I have made at Uni, where I end up watching Formula 1 with them for some reason.
Hi, my name is Mandy and I am a first year Chemistry student enrolled in Chemistry with a Year of Industry MSc. I was born and raised in the UK and had most of my childhood in Birmingham. In school, Chemistry was always one of my strongest subjects and found it to be very logical but intriguing. Having a particular strength in Practical Chemistry, I often find myself in the zone during labs. Outside of chemistry, I do a range of sports from Muay Thai to Netball. I enjoy watching figure skating and I have started developing my skills as there are more facilities available in London. Coming to university has allowed me to gain independence which I’ve always wanted but that hasn’t come short of challenges.
Hello! This is Gigi from China, second year chemist who has just decided to take a gap year!! Big fan of literature, movie, music, nature and chemistry, of course. I hope everyone gets to enjoy their time at Imperial. Go make new friends and explore around your hobbies! Time in uni is too good to be wasted... (Sound like an old man but I mean it lol)
Hi! My name is Ruixi Lin and I am from China. I am doing a three-year chemistry programme at imperial college, London. I am going to be in Second year this autumn. I am very sporty but I also love to read. Year one was a particularly hard year for me, as I spent so much time coping with both a new study and a living environment. But it all turned out very nicely, and I can’t wait to be back in London again!
Hello all! I am Sizhe. I am a first-year student taking the F124 MSci Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry course. I am from Singapore. I enjoy music; I play the oboe and piano and I am an oboist in Imperial College Symphony Orchestra and Imperial College Sinfonietta (please join if you can play an instrument!). I have other interests in reading, video games (Destiny 2, Apex) and badminton.
I’ve just finished my first year of the MSci course and I’m from South-East London (so pretty local). I love to cook, bake (particularly chocolate cake) and read – I especially love fiction and my favourite genre is fantasy. I’m quite sporty as well so I enjoy swimming and am part of the basketball society. Over lockdown, I also took up gardening.
Hello! My name is Wei Xin. I am from Malaysia. I just finished first year, and I am on the Chemistry with a Year in Industry course. I did the Medicinal Chemistry 1 ancillary, and I will be continuing with Medicinal Chemistry 2 in second year. I enjoy baking, watching movies, having deep philosophical conversations on different approaches to life, working out and spending time with friends and family. I am excited to meet all of you. See you soon!
Hi, there. My name is Douglas, and I am a second-year Chemistry student from China. I come from Yangzhou, a city that can be dated back to 2000 years ago. I love running and am keen on photography. My other passion is travelling and I can’t wait to find people to visit both the mainstream and the less known places in the UK. The first year here has been absolutely awesome. It’s nice to see all of you guys, and I hope you have a good time here as well.
Hi everyone, my name is Yuyang Han, and I am a third-year student doing Chemistry MSci course. I am from Zibo, Shandong China and had my high school in Shanghai. I cook, dance, yoga, play tennis and listening to music to relax. For Chemistry, I found transition metals more interesting for me, and organic chemistry are intriguing for me as well but needs more efforts!
Hope you will have a good chemistry degree at Imperial and good luck to you all.
Hi there! My name is Zelin and I am from Harbin, China. I am on BSc Chemistry course and I’ve just finished my first year. Our first year is mainly done online and it was really fast! Hopefully next year we can have more in-person activities. My favourite subject is of course Chemistry. Besides, I like playing various sports: football, basketball, badminton…basically a lot of ball games. I am also quite into music and playing Rubic cubes. Enjoy your time at Imperial and hope to see you on campus someday!
